Local Tourism Notes

Information relevant to the visitor to Limousin: where to go, what to do, when to do it.

The staff at most tourist offices speak English. They are usually very helpful with all tourism questions as well as questions on public transport and more. If you're in need of some help, they're always worth asking.

Tourist Offices are able to provide general information on their area, much of it as appropriate to the resident as to the visitor. If you want to know about fairs, markets, concerts and other events in your area the Tourist Office is bound to have information, brochures and flyers.

Official local tourism authorities have comprehensive websites in English providing much useful information for a tourist to the region:

Corrèze Villages

The Corrèze is home to some of the most beautiful villages in France that are well worth the visit. Villages include Turenne, which is has an eleventh century château. Turenne overlooks the village of Collonges-la-Rouge, which owes its name to the red stone buildings. The medieval village of St-Robert is renowned for it’s Romanesque church and Cuermonte for its three castles. The medieval town of Uzerche, also called the "Pearl of the Limousin", is entirely circled by the river Vezère.

Archaeological Sites

Limousin has just about the least historical monuments and museums of any region in France. On the other hand it has over 13,000 archaeological sites. A number of these sites in the region show us that man first settled there approximately 150,000BC in Chalucet (87) and Crozant (23). Other remains can be found in sites at Puy de Tour (19), Puy de Gaudy (23) and Villejoubert (87)

Parc Animalier des Monts de Guéret

Visitors to this animal park can observe European, Albertan and Mackensian wolf packs in a natural environment. There is also a museum on the site, which describes the nature of wolves, and an observatory with a 450mm telescope.
